Because underpaid teachers can't fix Nigerian education. Empowered ones can.

Here's what we believe at Tensai: teachers are the most underpaid professionals in this country — not because they lack skill, but because nobody ever handed them the method and the tools that command real money. I'm Chris Obike — UNESCO-accredited child psychologist, founder of Tensai Kids. Our teaching method transformed so many "struggling" children that parents kept referring parents, until we hit a wall:

So we opened hiring. Applications flooded in — experienced, qualified teachers. And we couldn't hire most of them, for two reasons: nobody had ever taught them our method, and most couldn't teach online at all. In our survey of 200+ teachers, only 26 felt confident with the digital tools that make online learning work.

The rules of the free cohort

You train on our learning platform, and it tracks everything — logins, lessons completed, show-ups.

One live session a week. Miss sessions or go inconsistent without telling us, and you're removed from the cohort. No hard feelings, no readmission that batch. Every seat we give a ghost is a seat a serious teacher lost.

The training is free from day one to day thirty-five. The only paid step is the optional Certification Track at the end — and you'll know its price before you ever start.

Applications for each batch close a week before training begins, so we can review every application, send out acceptances and get people onto the platform before day one. There's no late entry once a batch has started. The October batch closed on the 19th, and the waitlist is how you get told first when the next one opens.

Before you apply

Questions teachers actually ask us

Is the certification compulsory?

No. The five weeks of training are free and they stay free whatever you decide at the end. The Certification Track is a separate, optional step for teachers who want the credential, the assessment and the listing. Plenty of people will take the training, use the method in their own classroom and stop there. That's a perfectly good outcome.

What happens if I fail the assessment?

You get one free retake within 30 days. No extra fee. And whether you pass or not, everything you earned during the five weeks is still yours to keep. We don't take the training back.

Does certification guarantee you'll hire me?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. What certification does is put you in the pool we hire from and the directory those parents search. We hire the strongest certified teachers as roles open, and roles open constantly. But a guarantee would be a lie, and we'd rather you trust the ones we do make.

How much time does it take each week?

One live session a week, plus the lessons on the platform in your own time. Most teachers get through it in a few hours a week. It's built around people who are already teaching full-time, so nothing clashes with the school day.

What if I miss a live session?

Tell us before, not after. Life happens, and we work around it when we know about it. What gets people removed isn't missing one session, it's going quiet. Silence is what we read as a ghost, and that seat goes to someone on the waiting list.

Do I need to be in Lagos?

No. The training runs entirely online and we have teachers joining from across Nigeria and outside it. The parents hiring through us are looking for online tutors, so where you sit matters a lot less than how well you teach.

What do I need to take part?

A device you can learn on, an internet connection good enough for a weekly live session, and the willingness to actually show up for five weeks. That's the whole list.

Can I still join this batch?

No. Applications closed on 19 October and that batch started on the 25th. We don't take late entries, because the whole thing runs as one group and nobody catches up fairly from weeks behind. Join the waitlist and you'll be told when the next batch opens, ahead of any public announcement.
